FOUNDED IN 1875

In Ajmer, Rajasthan, there is a public boys' residential school called Mayo College. Richard Bourke, 6th Lord of Mayo, who served as Viceroy of India from 1869 to 1872, founded it in 1875. The institution is among India's oldest public residential schools.

ORIGIN & LEGACY

The famed author Rudyard Kipling's father, Mr. Lockwood Kipling, provided the design from which the Mayo College coat of arms was created. As India gained its independence, the school welcomed students from all communities and regions of the country and the rest of the world.
